Despite demands by Democratic politicians from around the country, President Trump and the Department of Justice are not backing down.

And Ilhan Omar is getting desperate as the walls are closing in on her.

Rumors have long circulated that she committed fraud on her immigration and naturalization forms.

But she has also been tied in numerous ways to the growing fraud scandal around her fellow Somalian constituents in Minneapolis.

But with President Trump’s latest announcement, it appears matters are finally being drawn to a head.

President Donald Trump announced on Monday that the Department of Justice is examining the finances of Representative Ilhan Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota.

The claim, made publicly on Trump’s Truth Social platform, came as his administration faces intense obstruction in Minnesota from immigration advocates and Democratic politicians.

In his post, Trump asserted that both Congress and federal prosecutors were reviewing Omar’s personal wealth. 

He contrasted her arrival in the United States as a Somali refugee with what he claimed was a current net worth exceeding $44 million, suggesting that the accumulation of such wealth was suspicious. 

Trump did not present evidence to support the allegation, and as of Monday, the Department of Justice had not confirmed the existence of any investigation.

Over the years, Trump has suggested Ilhan Omar should be jailed or deported, despite her status as a U.S. citizen since 2000, and has repeatedly linked her to alleged welfare fraud cases in Minnesota.

Omar’s finances have recently drawn attention following the release of her latest financial disclosure, which showed a significant increase in her household wealth. 

According to the filing, the growth was largely attributable to her spouse’s business interests rather than her congressional salary. 

The disclosure lists investments valued between $6 million and $30 million in a venture capital firm and a California winery. 

Federal ethics rules require lawmakers to report assets and income in broad ranges, a practice that can make changes in net worth appear dramatic.

Republicans in Congress have also signaled interest in examining Omar’s finances. 

House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Comer of Kentucky said he intends to review the source of the increase, though no formal findings or charges have been announced. 

Omar has consistently denied any financial impropriety and has maintained that her disclosures fully comply with ethics requirements.

Omar responded sharply to Trump’s latest remarks, accusing him of using her as a political distraction. 

Writing on the social media platform X, she said the president was deflecting from declining political support by recycling conspiracy theories and false allegations. 

She added that repeated inquiries over the years have found no wrongdoing and criticized the administration’s immigration operations in Minnesota.

Trump’s announcement regarding Omar coincided with his decision to send Tom Homan, the White House’s border enforcement coordinator, to Minnesota. 

The move follows growing unrest in the state after two fatal encounters involving federal immigration agents and U.S. citizens earlier this month.

The most recent incident involved Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old nurse who was shot and killed by a Border Patrol agent in Minneapolis amid an expanded federal immigration presence. 

His death sparked widespread protests, with demonstrators accusing immigration authorities of excessive force. 

Earlier in the month, another U.S. citizen, Renee Good, was killed during a separate immigration operation, further intensifying public outrage.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Monday that President Trump does not want to see civilians or law enforcement officers harmed. 

She stated that the shootings are being investigated by multiple agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI, with Customs and Border Protection conducting an internal review. 

However, she also defended the administration’s immigration policies and enforcement efforts.

As protests continue and investigations unfold, Trump’s renewed focus on Omar has added another layer of political tension to an already volatile situation in Minnesota, intertwining questions of law enforcement, immigration policy, and partisan conflict.
