The numbers keep climbing and the open-borders crowd has no answer for it.

Democrats thought they could shield criminals from federal agents. They were wrong.

And now Trump just set one record that will have his supporters grinning from ear to ear.

The Numbers the Left Does Not Want Talked About

ICE arrested 50,925 illegal aliens across the country in August 2026, according to the Department of Homeland Security. That beats July’s record of 50,208 arrests and marks the second straight month with more than 50,000 illegal aliens taken off American streets.

Three consecutive months of record-breaking arrests. June set the bar at roughly 43,900. July shattered it. August shattered July.

“The hard-working men and women of DHS continue to break records as they defend the homeland and protect the American people,” DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said.

“For the third straight month, ICE set a new record for the highest number of illegal aliens arrested in a single month, nearly 51,000. This is promises made and promises kept in action,” Mullin added.

The pace is still below the White House’s stated goal of a million arrests a year, according to the Washington Times. But it is not remotely close to the Biden administration’s record. In fiscal year 2024, Biden’s ICE enforcement arm made just 113,431 arrests total, according to the Washington Times. And only 33,242 of those were at-large arrests — meaning agents actually went into communities to find people. The Trump administration has expanded both sides of that ledger.

ICE has now logged more than 300,000 arrests in 2026 alone, according to DHS figures. A Center for Immigration Studies report published in early September found that the total foreign-born population in the United States fell by at least 2.9 million between January 2025 and July 2026. CIS research director Steven Camarota and demographer Karen Zeigler wrote that “since January 2025 the foreign-born population has fallen by 2.9 million through July 2026” and that “a decline of this size means net migration must have been negative in the last year.”

That is what enforcement actually looks like. Not press releases. Not promises. Numbers that move.

Operation Rotten Apple and the Sanctuary City Problem

The August total included a major enforcement surge in New York. Operation Rotten Apple, which ran from July 27 through August 29, resulted in the arrests of 2,197 illegal aliens across New York state, including murderers, rapists, pedophiles, drug traffickers, and violent assailants, according to DHS.

Mullin held a press conference in New York City to announce the results. He did not soften the message.

“Thanks to the hard work of the men and women of ICE and our federal partners, Operation Rotten Apple did what sanctuary politicians in New York City and the state of New York refuse to do: made the Empire State safer,” Mullin said.

“Over the course of this operation, we arrested murderers, rapists, pedophiles, drug traffickers, and violent assailants,” Mullin continued. “And we did it with no help from Mayor Mamdani and Governor Hochul. The Trump Administration is committed to protecting the American people in every city and every state, and we won’t let sanctuary politicians stand in our way.”

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and New York Governor Kathy Hochul have both championed the sanctuary policies that directly enabled the problem ICE had to clean up. According to DHS, those policies resulted in the release of 13,621 criminal illegal aliens from jails back onto the streets of New York. Hochul had also pushed a legislative proposal to bar local police departments from cooperating with federal immigration enforcement.

Mamdani and Hochul held their own press conference in New York City the same day — not to answer for the criminal aliens their policies had shielded, but to demand that DHS restore $87 million in federal anti-terrorism funding, according to reporting from the Center Square. Hochul accused the Trump administration of “defunding the police” ahead of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

That is the sanctuary politician playbook. Release the criminals. Demand the federal money. Attack the people cleaning up the mess.

ICE also began targeting Haitian migrants who lost their Temporary Protected Status after the Supreme Court handed the Trump administration a victory in its effort to end those longstanding protections. The ruling affected more than 300,000 Haitians who had been living and working in the country under TPS.

What This Means Going Forward

The open-borders lobby spent years insisting that mass enforcement was impossible, inhumane, or both. The August numbers settle the “impossible” argument. Three straight months of records, 50,000-plus arrests in back-to-back months, and a foreign-born population that CIS says has declined by nearly three million since Trump took office. The machinery works when the political will exists to run it.

But numbers only tell part of the story. The more important shift is structural. The Trump administration has signed up hundreds of police and sheriff’s departments to cooperate in turning over illegal aliens, and it has deployed personnel into communities to track down people defying deportation orders, according to the Washington Times. That is not a temporary surge. That is an enforcement infrastructure being built to last.

Mullin made the stakes plain. “Under President Trump’s leadership, ICE is working around the clock every day to arrest and deport illegal aliens from American communities,” he said. He also issued a direct warning: “If you are in the country illegally, LEAVE NOW. If not, we will find you, arrest you, and deport you.”

And the sanctuary politicians who thought they could simply wait out the enforcement pressure are running out of runway. Operation Rotten Apple showed that ICE does not need local cooperation to operate. It is more efficient with cooperation — but it does not require it.

New York City is home to some of the most aggressive sanctuary protections in the country. ICE still arrested 2,197 people there in roughly 30 days. That number will keep growing as long as Mayor Mamdani and Governor Hochul keep releasing criminal illegal aliens back onto the streets rather than turning them over to federal authorities.

The voters who sent President Trump back to Washington in 2024 did not send him there to manage the illegal immigration problem. They sent him there to end it. Three straight months of record arrests, 300,000-plus in 2026 alone, and a shrinking foreign-born population that the data now confirms — that is what carrying out a mandate actually looks like.

The open-borders crowd is going to keep calling it cruel. Sanctuary politicians are going to keep holding press conferences demanding federal money while shielding criminal aliens from the law. None of that changes the trajectory. The numbers are going up. The foreign-born population is going down. And ICE is not slowing down.
