Political feuds usually start with a slight, a vote, or a nasty tweet.

The war between President Trump and Ilhan Omar keeps getting uglier, with federal agents now in the mix.

But the first shot came before Omar ever took her oath, and Democrats would rather nobody remembered it.

Trump Needed Seven Words for Omar’s Latest Dodge

The newest round kicked off on MS NOW. Host Chris Hayes asked US Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) about the long-running allegation that she married her brother, and Omar answered, “Not to my knowledge.”

President Trump caught the clip and offered a short review. “That tells you a lot right there,” he said.

Omar denies any wrongdoing, and prosecutors haven’t charged her with anything. But she now lives under a federal investigation into her immigration history, one that put Homeland Security Investigations agents inside her Washington, DC home with a court-approved search warrant in October 2026.

Trump hasn’t pretended to lose sleep over it. At an Oval Office press availability, a reporter asked whether Omar could face deportation if investigators found a problem with her age. “Well, she could be. She could also go to jail,” Trump answered.

Democrats and their media allies tell this story one way. Trump, in their version, simply can’t stand a Somali-born congresswoman who criticizes him, so he keeps hammering her.

And he clearly can’t stand her. That part checks out.

But their version conveniently skips the opening chapter.

Omar Wanted Trump Gone Before She Ever Cast a Vote

Rewind to December 2018. Omar had won her House seat but hadn’t yet taken the oath of office. She told CNN that Trump was inching closer to impeachment “every day,” according to Newsweek, which described the incoming congresswoman as a vocal advocate for removing him.

She hadn’t cast a single vote. She hadn’t sat through a single committee hearing. And she already had the ending written.

Weeks later, a brand-new Congresswoman Omar sat down with Rolling Stone. “I believe that impeachment is inevitable,” she told the magazine, adding that “Trump really has the markings of a dictator.”

Then she put her name on a pledge from an activist group called By the People, promising to vote to impeach the President. Rashida Tlaib signed it with her.

By December 2019, House Democrats had the partisan Ukraine impeachment they’d been itching for, and Omar issued an official statement declaring, “He must be impeached.”

And she wasn’t finished. On January 6, 2021, as events unfolded at the Capitol, Omar posted, “I am drawing up Articles of Impeachment.” She introduced two articles within days, helping drive the second impeachment through the House.

There’s a footnote worth remembering here. Omar represents Minneapolis, the same city where rioters seized and burned a police precinct in the summer of 2020. Democrat leaders who spent years calling January 6 an insurrection never found that word for what happened in Omar’s own backyard.

Trump’s second term didn’t change her script one bit. In April 2026, after Trump issued a blunt warning to Iran during tense negotiations over the Strait of Hormuz, Omar wrote on X, “Donald Trump must be impeached.” Days earlier, she called him an “unhinged lunatic” who “must be removed from office.”

Count it up and that’s nearly eight years of the same demand, starting before she’d ever drawn a congressional paycheck.

Trump Kept Circling Back to One Charge

Trump’s side of the feud has stayed just as consistent, and it always lands on the same point. Omar, he argues, hates America.

At a July 2019 White House event, he said of Omar and her progressive allies, “These are people that, in my opinion, hate our country.”

At a 2019 rally in Minneapolis, right in Omar’s home turf, Trump turned it up. “Congresswoman Omar is an America-hating socialist,” he told the crowd.

He said it again during the 2020 campaign at a stop in Ocala, Florida. “She hates our country,” Trump said.

Omar fired back on X: “Firstly, this is my country & I am a member of the House that impeached you.”

Look at what she grabbed first. She skipped any defense of America and went straight for the impeachment, as if that settled the question of loyalty.

The feud took a darker turn in September 2025, after the assassination of Charlie Kirk on September 10. Omar pushed back on the idea that Kirk simply wanted civil debate, and US Representative Nancy Mace (R-SC) tried and failed to censure her. Trump flipped Omar’s favorite weapon around on her. “I think she’s terrible. I think she should be impeached,” he told reporters aboard Air Force One.

The Constitution doesn’t actually let the House impeach its own members, only expel them. But Trump wasn’t teaching a civics class. “They impeached me twice for nothing,” he added.

Later on Truth Social, he branded her “a constant complainer who hates the USA.”

The Tables Turned on the Congresswoman Who Started It

Trump’s critics will say “hates America” goes too far. Maybe. Loving a country and criticizing its government can live in the same person.

But Omar hasn’t made that case easy. Fox News reported she recently referred to the country with a profane, blasphemous phrase during a Democrat field hearing in St. Paul, prompting Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) to ask what the consequence of such language should be. Pair that with years of treating an elected President as a dictator in waiting, and plenty of Americans can see where Trump gets it.

And here’s the twist Democrats don’t want anybody dwelling on.

For nearly eight years, Omar insisted Trump’s presidency was illegitimate and demanded investigations, hearings, and removal. Now federal investigators want to know whether her own path into the country holds up, and she calls the whole thing a political hit job orchestrated by people who hate her.

That’s a familiar complaint. Trump made it about two impeachments, a pile of investigations, and a Washington establishment that decided his presidency was over before it started. Democrats rolled their eyes at him every time.

None of this answers the legal question. Investigators will either find documents that support the allegations or they won’t, and Omar deserves the same presumption of innocence any American gets.

But the politics already look settled. Omar threw the first punch in December 2018, before she’d learned her way around the Capitol, and kept throwing it for the better part of a decade.

Now she’s the one complaining the fight got personal.
