Obama’s Demand for AI Regulation Isn’t What It Seems

Polls show 81 percent of Americans want government regulations on AI.

Americans fear a technology that not even the people developing it understand, wiping out jobs, or even worse, all of humanity.

In an interview at Colgate University, Barack Obama demanded the government take action to regulate AI and rejected the Trump administration’s approach that the industry should self-regulate.

“[The] government has to be regulating this!” Obama rnted “I heard one of Donald Trump’s main advisers on this make the argument that, ‘The market will take care of i. These companies will solve the safety issues because they have every incentive to do so — if it turns out to be dangerous, people will just sue them and they’re worried about financial liability.’ That’s not how we treat airlines! Or drug companies, or food companies.”

“The challenge we have is that, obviously, we have a president currently that has said that’s for losers,” Obama added. “So we’ve got a gap of at least a couple of years where things are moving really fast and we have an administration that is not capable of or willing to — I would argue both — putting together a serious regulatory framework.”

Obama and the Democrats are rallying around AI regulation, not because they want to prevent AI from bringing about the apocalypse like in the Terminator movies.

Democrats want to impose a regulatory framework on AI so if they seize power they can weaponize this technology to censor conservatives on the internet or crack down on political opponents, such as in the event of another COVID, track Americans who disobey lockdown.

AI Warnings

The debate over AI kicked into high gear when Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who previously predicted AI would wipe out 90 percent of white-collar jobs, called for a slowdown on AI superintelligence research, warning that this technology could lead to a catastrophic bioterror, cyber, or economic attack.

“They include the risk of losing control of AI systems, misuse of AI for cyberattacks and bioterrorism, and serious economic disruption. A race to the bottom, spurred by commercial incentives, can make these risks more acute,” Amodei wrote.

Amodei added, “We must slow the pace at which we improve the capabilities of AI models. Progress will still seem fast, and we must make wise use of the time we gain,” Amodei added.

Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman agreed with Amodei.

Trump recognized the danger AI presented and announced he was creating an AI force, similar to the Space Force he created in his first term, to prevent a doomsday scenario.

“”For this purpose, I am forming the AI Force, much like I did Space Force, which has been a tremendous SUCCESS, in my First Term,” the president’s post continued. “To that end, I will be announcing, in the near future, the AI ‘Czar’ — Only High I.Q. individuals need apply!” Trump posted on Truth Social.
