California Governor Gavin Newsom stunned Americans by announcing that he and his wife were under criminal investigation.

But Newsom wasn’t telling the whole story.

And Gavin Newsom tried to bury this explosive truth about his criminal investigation.

Newsom set off a political earthquake by revealing that he and his wife were the targets of a criminal investigation.

The California Governor claimed the Trump Justice Department launched these investigations out of revenge for his wanting to run for President in 2028.

“In recent days, federal agents have knocked on the doors of family, friends, and former employees. Not because they found a crime, but because they’re simply trying to find one,” Newsom declared. “They’re demanding records; they’re abusing the grand jury process, digging through years and years of random documents. Donald Trump isn’t just coming after me because of my mean tweets; he’s coming after me because I’m considering running for president.” 

Newsom then tried to claim he was the latest in a list of political enemies facing the wrath of the Trump Justice Department.

“One by one, anyone who has challenged Donald Trump has ended up on his hit list, and today, I proudly join that list,” Newsom added. “After calling for my arrest last year, Donald Trump directed his Department of Justice to investigate me. And, just in the last week, I’ve learned that his campaign has reached my own home.” 

Newsom accused Trump of being a bully who threatened women out of a desire for revenge.

“If they can’t intimidate me, they’ll go after the mother of our children,” Newsom ranted. “Donald Trump picked the wrong target. We have nothing to hide.” 

But Newsom wasn’t telling the whole story.

Newsom wasn’t the direct target of any investigations.

In fact, one of the criminal probes involved Newsom’s chief of staff and began under Joe Biden.

The Daily Wire’s Mary Margaret Olohan reported that her outlet “has learned that multiple DOJ investigations are going on related to Gavin Newsom, though none of them are directly into Newsom himself. One investigation, which began in 2025, is related to his wife and her taxes, a source familiar said. A separate DOJ investigation, which began under the Biden DOJ, involved Newsom’s chief of staff. That investigation, which is still open and evolving, involves multiple Newsom staff, I’m told.”

The other investigation involved a whistleblower coming forward with allegations that Newsom’s wife committed tax fraud.

Breitbart reported that “Siebel Newsom had allegedly pocketed over $3 million of income from her charity, The Representation Project, for herself and her company, Girls Club LLC, over the past decade.” 

When the full picture of the story emerged, it appeared that Newsom was engaging in the classic Washington tactic of getting ahead of bad news by announcing it yourself so you can frame it on your own terms.
