Deep State leakers plagued President Trump from the first day of his first term.
But Trump will be grinning from ear to ear over this latest development.
And Kash Patel’s takedown of a classified leaker is the reckoning the deep state feared.
FBI Director Kash Patel announced the arrest of Courtney P. Williams, a 40-year-old Army veteran assigned to a Special Military Unit (SMU) at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, on charges of leaking classified information to journalist Seth Harp between 2022 and 2025 for his book, “The Fort Bragg Cartel.”
“FBI and our partners have arrested a former SOCOM employee, who supported our top-level military warfighters, for allegedly transmitting classified information to a member of the media,” Patel wrote on X.
“Let this serve as a message to any would-be leakers: we’re working these cases, and we’re making arrests. This FBI will not tolerate those who seek to betray our country and put Americans in harm’s way,” Patel added.
Prosecutors alleged that Williams sent 180 text messages to Harp containing classified documents and information about operational techniques and tactics used in covert operations.
“Clearance holders accept a solemn obligation to protect the classified information entrusted to them,” a press release from Assistant Attorney General for National Security John A. Eisenberg announcing the indictment read. “That they do so is critical to the security of our Nation. When clearance holders violate that trust, the National Security Division will act swiftly to hold them accountable.”
“The tradecraft, tactics, and techniques used by the U.S. military unit in this case are classified and should be shared only with those with proper clearances and a need to know to protect American lives and safeguard classified National Defense information,” said Reid Davis, the FBI Special Agent in Charge in North Carolina, who oversaw the arrest.
“These are serious accusations. Anyone divulging information they vowed to protect to a reporter for publication is reckless, self-serving, and damages our nation’s security,” Davis added.
Harp attacked the indictment as an attack on the free press.
“Former Delta Force operators disclose `national defense information’ on podcasts, and YouTube shows every day, but the government is going after Courtney for the sole reason that she exposed sexual harassment and gender discrimination in the unit. This is a vindictive act of retaliation, plain and simple,” a statement from Harp declared.
The day Harp’s book hit, Williams messaged Harp expressing that she felt betrayed by what she believed was Harp outing her as a source, saying “the amount of classified information being disclosed,” adding that she felt that “an entire TTP was sent out in my name.”
“I might actually get arrested, and I don’t even get a free copy of the book,” Williams added that she thought the government would arrest her “for disclosing classified information.”
