Secretary of State Marco Rubio just gave the left a very bad weekend.

And it wasn’t anything he said from a podium.

Rubio spent his time off in a way that had liberals grinding their teeth and reaching for their phones.

Rubio Tees It Up With Trump While the Left Fumes

Rubio played golf with President Donald Trump at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, and the photos made the rounds fast.

For anyone keeping score at home, that’s the Secretary of State spending his downtime with the President, which is the kind of thing that drives the political class absolutely crazy.

Rubio posted a photo from the round on X, and the left did exactly what you’d expect — called it nepotism, called it a photo op, called it everything except what it actually was: two guys playing golf.

But here’s what’s worth noting. Rubio isn’t some establishment figure who wandered into Trump’s orbit. He’s the son of Cuban immigrants who worked as a bartender and a hotel maid. He’s been in the Senate for 14 years. He’s traveled to more than 60 countries. And now he’s America’s Secretary of State, spending his weekends with the President he serves.

That story doesn’t fit the media’s preferred narrative, so they focus on the optics instead of the substance.

Danica Patrick Soaks Up Florida While Critics Seethe

Racing legend Danica Patrick was also in Florida, posting views from what appeared to be a waterfront location that had her followers talking.

Patrick has never been shy about living on her own terms, and the left has never quite forgiven her for it. She’s been openly skeptical of COVID mandates, she’s raised questions about vaccine policy that the establishment media preferred to dismiss rather than engage, and she’s made clear she doesn’t need their approval to enjoy her life.

Those are principled positions rooted in medical freedom and individual autonomy, whatever the corporate press wants to call them.

And Patrick just keeps living well, which is its own kind of answer.

Vrabel Breaks His Silence on the Patriots Situation

Former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, who was hired by the New England Patriots as a senior football advisor before Robert Kraft and the organization ultimately moved in a different direction, broke his silence on the whole episode.

Vrabel told reporters he was disappointed but handled it with the kind of composure you’d expect from someone who spent years in a Patriots locker room under Bill Belichick.

“Obviously I was surprised,” Vrabel said, according to reporting from the source. “I thought it was a great opportunity.”

The Patriots situation has been a mess by any honest measure. The franchise that won six Super Bowls under Belichick has been spinning its wheels since he left, and the front office decisions since then haven’t exactly inspired confidence.

Vrabel is a respected football mind. Whether New England’s brass made the right call walking away from him is a question that’s going to follow the organization for a while.

And the NFL world noticed. Vrabel’s name carries weight, and the Patriots burning that bridge — or at least letting it go cold — struck a lot of people in the league as a strange move for a team that badly needs credibility right now.

What the Weekend Actually Tells You

Put these three things together and you get a picture the mainstream press won’t draw for you.

Rubio, a first-generation American who rose to one of the most powerful positions in the world, spent the weekend with the President he serves. Patrick, a woman who built her career on refusing to be told what she could or couldn’t do, is living exactly the life she wants in Florida. And Vrabel, a football man’s football man, got squeezed out of a situation he thought was a genuine opportunity and handled it with more dignity than the franchise probably deserved.

None of that fits the stories the left prefers to tell about who wins, who matters, and who gets to be taken seriously.

But the country isn’t asking for their permission anymore, and that’s the part that really bothers them.

The Make America Healthy Again movement that Patrick has been sympathetic to isn’t going away. The America First foreign policy that Rubio is now executing on a global stage isn’t going away. And the NFL is going to keep producing situations where front offices make decisions that age poorly.

The weekend was quiet by Washington standards. But quiet weekends have a way of saying something.
