President Trump’s political career consisted of one bold move after another that defied the experts’ predictions.
Republicans and Democrats wondered if Trump’s well had run dry.
But now, Donald Trump is planning one Hail Mary rescue mission that will put your jaw on the floor.
The midterm elections are less than seven months away, but the tea leaves aren’t encouraging for President Trump and the Republican Party.
Real Clear Politics’ polling average shows Democrats hold a 5.8% lead in the generic ballot question of which party Americans want to see controlling Congress.
The Kalshi prediction market finds that gamblers believe the most likely outcome of the midterm election is that Democrats will emerge with majorities in both the House and Senate.
Democrats controlling Congress means the end of Trump’s agenda, a blockade on Trump nominees – especially at the Supreme Court – and a third impeachment hoax.
Megyn Kelly interviewed journalist Mark Halperin about the lay of the political land and noted the decline in Trump’s poll numbers since the war in Iran began and gas prices surged.
“He is down significantly with every constituency that put him in office,” Kelly began. “He’s gone up with the very small contingent that includes the massively hawkish neocon right, but with every other contingent, he’s gone down.”
CNN Poll: One-quarter of voters are "double haters" (dislike both parties). They currently prefer Democrats by 31 points in the midterms.

Kelly then asked Halperin how Trump could win back voters outside the MAGA movement back to the Republican Party, who soured on Trump as the war dragged on.
“So what do you think his mindset is here, coming out of that? Now, even that small contingent is unhappy with him, but they’ll get over it because they’re very grateful for the war, but he has so much work to do in regaining the support of the other groups,” Kelly added.
Halperin reminded Kelly’s audience that Trump wasn’t up for re-election, so his approval rating wasn’t his number one concern, and instead argued that seven months was a lifetime in politics, which afforded Trump all the time he needed to turn the tide.
“Well, he’s not up for re-election, and so where his support stands doesn’t directly affect him. I think that there’s time, although the clock ticks, for him to fix the problems by the midterms, not just by ending the war, but by doing some of the other things Republicans are talking about,” Halperin began.
Halperin praised Trump’s political instincts and argued that Trump knew when it was time to cut bait on the war and pivot back to administration successes on the economy and sealing the border, even if pitching the war as a grand victory might prove more difficult.
“He’s got a great sense of instincts and a great sense of timing normally, but this is a complicated one, and I think we don’t know yet how this has gone as compared to his greatest hopes and worst nightmares,” Halperin added. “As PT Barnum, he’s always going to sell this as a big success, but he has a chance to succeed by having done a difficult thing.”
President Trump has a story to tell on his success in not just shutting down the border, but also in limiting immigration into America.

Halperin contends that once Trump can end the war in Iran and pivot to issues where Republicans hold the advantage over Democrats, Trump can turn the political tide in his favor.
