President Trump pressured the Senate to pass the SAVE Act.
Trump and his supporters received the verdict on these efforts.
And Sean Hannity was heartbroken when John Kennedy revealed the SAVE Act’s fate.
President Trump urged Senate Republicans to pass the SAVE Act, predicting it would guarantee GOP victory in the fall.
The legislation mandated proof of citizenship to register to vote, required a photo ID to cast a ballot, and would end mass mail-in voting.
Trump warned that without the SAVE Act eliminating election fraud, Democrats would sweep to power and install permanent left-wing rule by packing the Supreme Court, adding new blue states, and giving illegal aliens voting rights through mass amnesty.
But RINOs in the Senate, led by Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), refused to pass the bill and allowed Democrats to kill the bill via filibuster by rejecting Trump’s request to change the Senate’s rules to pass the SAVE Act by a simple majority vote.
In an interview with Sean Hannity, Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) said his fellow Republicans were lying to Trump and his supporters by claiming they would pass the SAVE Act when the Senate returned from August recess.
“We blow opportunities like it’s our job,” Kennedy fumed.
“I know the party line is that we’re gonna do it when we get back, but I think our chances of getting it passed have gone down immeasurably,” Kennedy added. “Look, all it would’ve taken is a majority vote.”
Hannity couldn’t understand how Republicans could fumble a chance to clinch victory in the midterms by refusing to pass a bill as basic as voter ID.
“I mean, it’s just disappointing, because it’s so fundamental — proof of citizenship, an ID,” Hannity lamented. “You need an ID if you wanna buy beer, you wanna buy cigarettes if you’re a smoker, if you wanna buy a Juul pod, if you wanna buy a nicotine pouch, you know, a bottle of wine for dinner.”
The bill wasn’t even controversial.
Even CNN data guru Harry Enten said voter ID was broadly popular with both Republicans and Democrats, as 83% of Americans backed requiring showing a picture ID before casting a ballot.
“Normally, you might expect, hey, there’d be a big divide by party, with Republicans really for it and Democrats really against it,” Enten said. “But not really here.”
“It’s not really all that controversial,” Enten continued. “The American people are with Nicki Minaj, whether they are Republican or even if they are Democrats.”
Enten was referring to a social media post by rapper Nicki Minaj, who said it was mind-boggling that Congress was even debating passing a voter ID law.
“What sensible, forward-thinking, cutting-edge leading nation is having a DEBATE on whether or not there should be VOTER ID?!?!!!! Like?!?!? They’re actually fighting NOT to have ppl present ID while voting for your leaders!!!!!” Minaj wrote on X. “Do you get it?!?!!!! Do you get it now?!?!!!”
Republicans will now head into the fall campaign having failed to pass a popular, signature election integrity bill.
