Vice President J.D. Vance is one of President Trump’s most trusted advisors.
That puts the Vice President in a key position to take action.
And J.D. Vance just stopped this terrible attack that hit Trump at the worst time ever.
Vice President J.D. Vance is the leading voice in the America First movement, gravitating toward Donald Trump because of his opposition to endless foreign wars.
Vance learned the consequences of military intervention in the Middle East when he served in the Iraq War.
President Trump confirmed reports that Vance advised against striking Iran, but that once he decided to go to war, Vance was on board and supported the decision.
Real Clear Politics’ Philip Wegmann asked Vance about a difference of opinion on Iran between him and President Trump at an Oval Office event where the President and Vice President outlined a new anti-fraud task force.
Vance blasted the premise of the question as an attempt to fracture his relationship with President Trump.
The Vice President explained that President Trump remained consistent over the last 10 years that Iran shouldn’t possess a nuclear weapon and that he agreed with that objective.
“And look, I think that I know what you’re trying to do, Phil, you’re trying to drive a wedge between members of the administration, between the president and me. What the president said consistently, going back to 2015, and I agreed with him, is that Iran should not have a nuclear weapon. We have taken this military action under the president’s leadership. I think all of us, whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican, should pray for success and pray for the safety of our troops. That’s the approach that I’ve taken — make it as successful as possible,” Vance replied.
Wegmann tried again, asking Vance if his experience serving in endless Middle East wars led him to oppose Trump going to war in Iran.
“Given your skepticism of foreign adventurism, you were a critic of the global war on terror, previously,” Weggman said when asking Vance about his past military service.
Vance shot that narrative down, telling Wegmann that the difference between now and then was that Trump was a President committed to avoiding endless wars and wouldn’t commit America to a nation-building effort like George W. Bush did.
“Well, I think one big difference, Phil, is that we have a smart president, whereas in the past we’ve had dumb presidents. And I trust President Trump to get the job done, to do a good job for the American people, and to make sure that the mistakes of the past aren’t repeated. Absolutely,” Vance concluded.
The media wants to paint a story of a failing war in Iran, and the latest front in this attack is to try to manufacture dissent inside the administration by pitting the President and Vice President against one another.
Vance crushed that plot by making it clear that he and President Trump are of one mind on this issue and that President Trump would never repeat the mistakes of the past.
