Sean Hannity is one of President Trump’s most trusted advisors.
Trump knew he could count on Hannity when the chips were down.
And Trump sent Sean Hannity on this secret mission that is Chuck Schumer’s worst nightmare.
Polls and prediction markets show Democrats hold at least a 50/50 chance of flipping the four seats necessary in the Senate to wrest the majority away from the GOP.
A Democratic Senate means a total blockade on Trump appointments, including Supreme Court nominees, and Trump’s legislative agenda grinding to a halt.
But there is one wildcard in play.
Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman.
Fetterman has completely alienated Democrats by his unwavering support for Israel, and his approval rating is higher with Republicans than with Democrats.
President Trump is pitching Fetterman on the full support of the Trump and National Republican political machine if he switches parties.
POLITICO’s Jonathan Martin reported that “Trump has made the sell, offering his patented total and complete endorsement plus a financial windfall to the Pennsylvanian. A handful of Senate Republicans are also gently feeling out Fetterman and responding to his concerns over the prospect of defecting from the Democratic Party, multiple high-level GOP officials tell me.”
Trump sent Sean Hannity to sell Fetterman on the idea of becoming either a Republican or an independent who caucuses with the GOP, either of which would deny Chuck Schumer the position of majority leader if Democrats win the necessary number of seats in November.
“‘Your job is to tell him: He’s gonna run as a Republican, he’s gonna have our full support, more money than he ever dreamed of, and he’s gonna win big,’” Hannity reported telling Fetterman.
Schumer is clearly panicked by the idea and takes great pains to try to keep Fetterman in the fold.
“Schumer has, I’m told by other Senate Democrats, tried to sustain a relationship with Fetterman, recognizing that a cold shoulder in person could only prompt him to take the left’s online derision to heart,” Martin also reported.
For his part, Fetterman claimed he was a Democrat through and through.
“I’m not changing,” Fetterman told Martin about the prospect of a party switch. “I’m a Democrat, and I’m staying one. “
Fetterman votes with Democrats 93 percent of the time, and he supports abortion on demand up until birth, transgender surgeries for kids, gun control, and amnesty for illegal aliens.
There isn’t any policy besides Israel that Fetterman aligns with Trump or the Republican Party.
Party switchers also don’t feel the need to switch when they run for re-election, especially in Pennsylvania.
In 2010, Arlen Specter left the Republican Party to become a Democrat when it was clear he would lose a primary to Pat Toomey.
Toomey defeated Specter in the general election anyway.
